What is the Literacy Lab?

The Literacy Lab is Excelsior's signature project-based learning experience, where students bring literature, ideas, and academic concepts to life through hands-on exploration and creativity. Each month, students complete a themed Literacy Lab project connected to their readings and classroom discussions. Depending on the grade level and monthly theme, projects may include mock trials, creative design challenges, book creation, art projects, character studies, presentations, simulations, collaborative workshops, and other interactive learning experiences.

The Literacy Lab encourages students to apply what they have learned through reading, writing, discussion, and research while developing creativity, problem-solving skills, teamwork, and intellectual curiosity. By transforming ideas into meaningful projects, students deepen their understanding of texts and discover that learning can be both academically enriching and genuinely enjoyable.
