Welcome to Excelsior Institute & Literacy Lab

DAY 2  At Excelsior, our programs are designed for students who are eager to strengthen their English proficiency, develop advanced academic skills, and cultivate a lifelong love of learning. Through a carefully structured curriculum, students build expertise in grammar, vocabulary, critical reading, research, academic writing, presentation skills, and analytical thinking. Engaging learning experiences—including Socratic seminars, research projects, and Literacy Lab activities—encourage students to become thoughtful readers, confident communicators, and independent learners. With classes limited to eight students and meeting twice weekly, we provide individualized guidance, meaningful feedback, and a supportive environment where every student can thrive academically and intellectually

Research

​

Students develop academic research skills through source evaluation, evidence analysis, and argument development. Using supplemental texts connected to the week's nonfiction reading, students learn to assess source credibility, identify bias, interpret quantitative and qualitative evidence, and construct thoughtful, evidence-based conclusions. Lessons integrate statistics, data interpretation, rhetoric, themes, cultural context, and critical analysis to foster interdisciplinary thinking.

Day 2 Curriculum

Analytical Writing & Synthesis

Students transform their reading, discussion, and research into structured academic writing. Through guided instruction and differentiated support, students learn to develop strong thesis statements, synthesize information from multiple sources, organize ideas effectively, and support arguments with relevant evidence. Writing expectations are tailored to students' developmental levels while promoting continuous growth in academic composition and analytical reasoning.

Presentation & Academic Speaking

Students develop confidence and communication skills by transforming their research and writing into presentations, speeches, and seminar discussions. Lessons focus on public speaking, rhetorical organization, verbal clarity, audience awareness, persuasive communication, and the effective defense of evidence-based interpretations.

Day 2 Curriculum

Literary Lab

Students apply literary analysis and weekly thematic concepts through collaborative, hands-on, and interdisciplinary learning experiences. Through creative projects, workshops, simulations, and inquiry-based activities, students deepen their understanding of texts while developing problem-solving skills, intellectual curiosity, and a greater appreciation for literature and ideas.
